AUGUST 7, 2023 – PROFESSIONAL SPEAKERS DAY
Professional Speakers Day is commemorated on August 7th annually to celebrate all people who stand up in front of an audience and talk about different topics to inform, educate, persuade, and encourage people to act on the things that matter to them. Whether the speaker's goal is teaching, persuasion, or entertainment, they influence the people who listen to them and significantly impact their lives.
HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SPEAKERS DAY
Professional Speakers Day was developed in Greece and Rome as an essential part of the rhetoric art of persuasion. Today, more than looking to persuade their audiences, public speakers seek to educate and entertain them. No matter what speech they offer, all speakers aim to get their audiences to act in a particular manner, either by working on what knowledge they have gained or incorporating it into their daily affairs. Historically, there is some evidence of professional speeches that were first made in Egypt. However, the first records of the rules and principles of public speaking used by professional speakers are from Ancient Greece, where every person had to speak for themselves rather than through advocates. Therefore, every citizen needed to learn the rules and methods of professional speaking. Romans adopted the Greek approach of teaching students public speaking when they took over and developed it into a full curriculum adding training in grammar, warm-up exercises, and declamation.
