FARMER'S CONSUMER AWARENESS DAY-SEPTEMBER 9, 2023
Occurring on the second Saturday of September every year, this holiday aims to give the public a view into the lives and work of farmers and has a national appeal even though it is hosted in Quincy. This holiday offers lovely insight into agriculture through various fun activities, such as parades, fun runs, entertainment, exhibitions, farm equipment displays, art and talent shows, and tours of farming areas.
FARMER'S CONSUMER AWARENESS DAY HISTORY
It began when Paul Harvey in 181 was recounting an occurrence on the radio about a woman who confronted the grocer about the seemingly high cost of food items yet was unable to understand the great job done by farmers since she knew nothing about farming. That day, Dennis Higashiyama, a Quincy farmer, was listening and took action immediately, realizing the disconnect between consumers and farmers and most consumers not knowing where their food comes from and the work that goes into farming. Dennis Higashiyama founded Farmer's Consumer Awareness Day to bring the farmer closer to the public.
Apart from being successful in bringing together people to celebrate the importance of farmers, it's also a fun holiday, and several activities are performed during the holiday.
